Ki-51 “Sonia” of the 6th Hakko/Seicho Squadron about to crash into the light cruiser USS Columbia (CL-56) during a Kamikaze attack on 6th January 1945 in the Lingayen Gulf in the Philippines. Despite the bomb carried by the aircraft penetrating two decks before exploding, she suffered little damage and only 13 men were killed and 44 were wounded. However, Columbia was hit by another suicide aircraft the next day and had to return to America for repairs.
