Despite its Navy markings, this is an all Army Air Forces/Air Force T-6G Texan. Originally built as an AT-6C in 1943 she was assigned to the 318th Army Air Forces Flying Training Detachment (AAFFTD) at Avenger Field in Sweetwater, Texas to train the Women Air Service Pilots(WASP). This is the aircraft that the Commemorative Air Force has purchased to form the Rise Above WASP squadron to tell the story of the WASP. In a way this aircraft’s career is coming full circle.
