Curtiss P-40M “Kittyhawk Mklll”

Serial number 43-5802. It was built in October 1943 and supplied to the Canadian air force before being decommissioned in 1950. It then spent some time at an American university and from there went into storage. It was rediscovered in 1970 and restored to flying condition, taking its first post-restoration flight in 1982. It is now owned and flown by Peter Teichman of Hangar 11. The aircraft is currently painted to represent P-40N-1 Warhawk 44-2104590, “Lulu Belle”, one of two P-40s that bore the markings of 2nd Lieutenant Philip R. Adair, a pilot with the United States Army Air Force’s 89th Fighter Squadron, 80th Fighter Group of the 10th Air Force in the far east. In the original “Lulu Belle”, Lt Adair took on 64 enemy fighters and bombers, shooting down two and scattering the rest, reducing the effectiveness of their raid.

Day 1 of my participation in the Aviation Photo Challenge. John Chvatal nominated me; in turn, I nominated Efton Ellis  (should he accept) to post one aviation-related photo a day, for 7 days, while nominating another person each day.
