As part of Brazil’s contribution to WW2, 48 Brazilian pilots flew with the 1st Brazilian Fighter Squadron as part of the USAAF’s 350th Fighter Group in Italy and flew 2,550 sorties between November 11th 1944 and May 2nd 1945 attacking ground targets such as trains, vehicle columns and airfields. On April 22nd 1945, now known as “Brazilian Fighter Arm Day” the squadron was credited with the destruction of hundreds of vehicles and barges.
