An image of a B-17, possibly an older F series, coming under attack by an Me-163 Komet rocket propelled interceptor. The Me-163 only ever shot down 16 enemy aircraft, including nine bombers, during its short career. This was largely due to it being too fast, with the pilot having 2-3 seconds to fire at his target. The aircraft had an endurance of only 7.5-8 minutes and so when it was gliding it was a very easy target, which led to the loss of many Komets in this way. The aircraft was dangerous to fly and so few were built that it isn’t surprising that it had very little impact on the air war over Europe.
