A Bristol Beaufort being worked upon by groundcrew at the airfield at either Ta’Quali or Luqa on Malta, 1943-43. The Beauforts, along with their Beaufighter counterparts proved to be effective against Axis convoys heading to Africa- for example, not as many Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger I heavy tanks saw action in Africa due to many being sunk by Beauforts and Beaufighters, greatly helping the campaign come to a swift end in 1943. However, losses were huge- so huge that one veteran after the war compared being a member of a Beaufort crew to being part of the Japanese Kamikaze units.
