This Day in Aviation History
January 5th, 1945
Jack bails out of an early model P-59 Airacomet and subsequently reaches a farmhouse near Lockport, New York after slogging through more than a mile of heavy snow with a broken shoulder.

Floyd Carlson, a Bell Aircraft test pilot, picked up Dr. Thomas C. Marriott in Ship 2 and in about 5 minutes landed him at an isolated farmhouse. Thomas promptly treats Jack Woolam’s injuries and frostbitten feet, saving them from amputation.
