Hoosiers Could be First to Get Official Warbird

There is a push for Indiana to adopt an official State Warbird.

State Representative Ron Bacon wants the Republic Aviation P-47 Thunderbolt to be Indiana’s official state “Warbird.”The P-47 was built in Evansville. It’s the only World War II plane made in Indiana.Bacon says there is a plan to open a museum at Evansville’s airport, honoring the P-47.
“This is historic. This is a matter of history and we want to make sure we don’t lose that. As of right now, there are only six planes that we’re aware of that are still flying worldwide and we’re really trying to get this designation and set up this museum and trying to get one of them to come back to Evansville,” said Representative Bacon.
