Jean Felix Piccard and his identical twin brother Auguste (who in 1931 made the first stratospheric balloon flight in Europe) were born in Basle, Switzerland on January 28, 1884. Their father, Jules Piccard, was Head of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Basle. Auguste Antoine Piccard was a Swiss physicist, inventor and explorer. He and his twin brother Jean Felix were born in Basel, Switzerland on 28 January 1884. Showing an intense interest in science as a child, he attended the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, and became a professor of physics in Brussels at the Free University of Brussels in 1922, the same year his son Jacques Piccard was born…..
