Hawker Typhoon
Originally conceived as a replacement for the Hawker Hurricane, design flaws proved it unsuitable for the role, but it proved to be the only aircraft capable of catching the Fock Wulfe 190 when the Luftwaffe first deployed it in 1941. Later in the war, the “Tiffy” gained a formidable reputation as a highly efficient fighter bomber, and a recognised tank killer.
