Warbird Wednesday!
Today’s warbird is the North American T-28 Trojan. The Trojan is the aircraft that replaced the T-6/SNJ Texan as the United States advanced military trainer. It made its first flight on 24 September 1949. The US Navy used the Trojan into the early 1980s.
The Trojan has an empty weight of 6,500 lbs and is powered by a1,425 hp Wright R-1820 Cyclone radial engine. It’s capable of 343 mph with a service ceiling of 39,000 ft. The T-28 was designed to closely mimic the performance and handling of the early jets being introduced to military service in the early ’50s.
