Spitfire Sunday?!
Yesterday, 5 March 1939 marked the date of the first flight of the Supermarine Spitfire. Today I give you another Spitfire. Like P-51 Mustangs, you can’t have enough Spitfires!
This is Jim Beasley Jr.’s Spitfire Mk. XVlll at the 2014 Gathering of Warbirds at Carl A Spaatz Field, Reading Regional Airport, Pennsylvania. Early Spitfires were powered by the 1,470 hp. Rolls Royce Merlin driving a three bladed prop, but this post war MK. XVIII is a true hotrod, powered by a 2,050 hp Rolls Royce Griffon driving a five bladed prop!
VRRRRRROOOOM!!
